P
ale in color, severe in youth, unyielding to haste—Nebbiolo’s beauty is the kind that reveals itself over time, like a landscape emerging through fog, or a conversation that deepens after the first glass. It is one of wine’s great paradoxes: delicate and forceful; austere and sensual; transparent, yet endlessly complex. And once it has you, it rarely lets go.
This seminar is a chance to explore that character in detail.
We’ll follow Nebbiolo through its core territories, starting in the Langhe and moving north into Alto Piemonte, where altitude, soil and climate give the grape a different accent. Along the way, we’ll taste producers who each offer a distinct point of view on Nebbiolo: some rooted in classic methods, others representing a newer generation, all serious about the grape and its potential.
We’ll taste Nebbiolo in many different shades and styles. Oddero will show classic Barolo structure with bright red fruit and lifted aromatics, while Aldo Conterno brings deeper, darker fruit, polished tannins and serious aging potential. Bruna Grimaldi adds site-specific Barolos with focused cherry, spice and firm backbone, and Trediberri highlights a fresher, high-toned side with red berries, floral notes and lively acidity from Monvigliero fruit. Conterno-Nervi takes us north with cooler flavors of iron, alpine herbs and crisp red fruit, then we return south to Silvio Giamello’s traditional Barbaresco, emphasizing taut structure and savory detail. Finally, Caparone in Paso Robles shows how Nebbiolo can thrive outside Piedmont, with familiar structure and aromatics shaped by a different climate and soils.
What connects these wines is not just tannin or the familiar tar-and-rose perfume, but the way Nebbiolo reflects place, patience and the choices made in vineyard and cellar. These are wines that change with time in the glass and with food at the table, and that reward careful tasting.
This evening is for anyone who wants to understand Nebbiolo more deeply: fans of Barolo and Barbaresco, curious Burgundy drinkers, and anyone who has ever wondered why this grape inspires such long-term loyalty.
Come join us for a tasting through Nebbiolo’s homelands, and discover how one variety can express so many thrilling variations.
